- Tyas House
-
- Tyas Cottage, a recently restored
cottage and barn, is located within a small hamlet on the site
of the first water powered mill in the Colne Valley (7 miles
from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire).
-
- It is south facing within the
sheltered, wooded valley, Merrydale, and at the end of a secluded
cul-de-sac.
|
 |
 |
- This is an ancient, cobbled
pack horse road and, apart from the sound of falling water, the
property is quiet and rural.
-
- Merrydale, designated as a
'Sight of Scientific Interest', is a beauty spot and its abundant
bird life includes kingfishers, herons and sparrow hawks.
-
- Foxes are often seen and a
deer was recently sighted.
|
- Special mention must be made
of the Georgian mahogany 4 poster bed with its carved ceiling.
-
- Despite its secluded setting,
Tyas Cottage is very close to numerous attractions.
- Slaithwaite railway station
is on the Newcastle to Liverpool route and the M62 is also within
5 minutes journey time.
-
- The nearby canal and Standedge
Tunnel have been recently restored, and it is within walking
distance of the Pennine Way.
-
- The house would be well suited
for hiking and bird watching as there are many local walks on
open moors or in sheltered valleys and there are six golf courses
within 5 miles.
-
- Television series 'The Last
of the Summer Wine', 'Where The Heart Is' and 'Heartbeat' are
filmed within the region and Emmerdale Village can be visited.
-
- On the 3rd Sunday every month
there is also the farmers' market in Holmfirth.
