Self Catering around Ashbourne/Matlock - accommodation in the Peak District

Ashbourne lies at the foot of the limestone hills and next to the river meadows of the River Dove. It's famous product is "Ashbourne Water", pumped from the Nestle factory well. Described as "Gateway to Dovedale", Ashbourne is a busy market town centred around a cobbled market place. The streets are lined with pleasant Georgian houses, now mostly converted into shops, the most attractive being Church Street with its antique shops.Across the road stands St. Oswald' Church, a fine example of the Early English style and dominated by a 212' tower and spire. Inside you will find one of the most touching monuments to be seen in any church. The white Carrara marble effigy is of Penelope Boothby, who died aged 6 in 1793.
